FAQ - "Why do I need a wheel alignment?"

Three critical factors for the safe handling of a vehicle are tread depth, correct tyre pressures and the wheel alignment.

 

• Tyre tread helps your car to grip the road when cornering and braking, as well as efficiently dispersing water the road in wet conditions.

• The minimum tread depth in New Zealand is 1.5mm. With the new longer WOF inspection intervals announced by NZTA (https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/news/changes-to-light-vehicle-inspections-from-1-november-2026), more attention is needed to ensure your tyres are still safe to use on our roads.

• Tyre pressure plays a major role in the handling and how tyres wear. If the pressure is too high, ride comfort and grip can be severely compromised. If the tyre pressures are too low, handling becomes sluggish, the vehicle can sway during cornering and high speed, and tyres will wear much faster.

If your wheels are out of alignment, it can negatively affect the handling and tyre wear. A correct wheel alignment will improve the lifespan of your tyres and also make for better fuel economy. 
Some signs that indicate your vehicle may need a wheel alignment are:

• Pulling to one side

• Tyres worn on the shoulders/edges

• Poor cornering performance

• Steering wheel is not level when travelling in a straight line
